Overview: This study seeks to determine the efficacy of Olanzapine (Zyprexa) for achieving sedation in agitated patients.

Primary Endpoints:  1. Patient mental status as assessed by AMSS and ACES. 2. Respiratory depression as assessed by pulse Ox
 

Eligible Patients: Patients who are over 18 yo and are acutely agitated.
 

Study Design: Prospective observational trial
 

Anticipated Benefits: achieving adequate sedation
 

Potential Risks: not achieving adequate sedation and the usual risks of sedative medications
 

Research Associate’s Role: RA’s are responsible for enrolling patients into the study.
 

Physician’s Role: Identifying patients for the study and ordering the drug.
