Procedural Recall of Patients Undergoing Sedation with Propofol

Overview: This purpose of this study is to determine at what point during a procedural sedation a patient is unable to recall what is happening to them.
 

Primary Endpoints: 1. BIS scores achieved during intubation 2. Patient recall of various words read to them by the RA.
 

Eligible Patients: Patients >18 years old which require a procedural sedation. The patient must not be pregnant, and must be of mental competence for consent.
 

Study Design: Prospective
 

Anticipated Benefits: none
 

Potential Risks: only risks associated with procedural sedation
 

Research Associate’s Role: The RA will start reading words from the list provided to the patient FOUR minutes before the procedure and continue every minute until the patient wakes up
 

Physician’s Role: none
