The purpose of the study is to quantify the amount of
radiation (from x-rays and CT scans) trauma patients are exposed to during
their care in the ED. This study is only for blunt trauma patients that have
NOT been transferred from any other facility.
Study packets are located in the Media Room near the door in the white cubbies
(in a white basket). They are numbered. Once complete, return them (with
completed data sheet/dosimeter baggies) to the black basket directly below the
blank study packets in the Media Room.
Prior to any x-rays/CT scans, RAs should tape a dosimeter on the side of the
neck
and near the groin. The baggies are labeled as such. Do NOT open the baggies
at any point.
After all x-rays/CT scans have been performed for the patient, remove the
baggies from patient and place back in manila envelope. Retrieve the baggies
BEFORE the patient leaves the ED. We cannot retrieve the dosimeters if the
patient has left the ED to another department.
Fill out data sheet, and place back in envelope. Put the "info sheet" with the
patient's paperwork or hand it directly to them before they leave the ED.
