Certain studies may have exclusion codes
prohibiting the patient from consenting.
Below is a summary of the current studies and their inclusion/exclusion codes...
Oral Oxycodone (adult) - 18 or older; Dr.
must be planning on giving IV morphine for relief
or be willing to place IV if patient randomizes to it
Oral Oxycodone (pediatric) - 17 or younger with parent or patient is
emancipated minor*
Dr. must be planning on giving IV morphine for relief or be willing to place IV
if patient randomizes
to it
Propofol vs. Propofol w/ Alfentanil and Propofol vs. Ketamine - 18 or
older; willing to randomize to either drug;
(patients most likely to receive conscious sedations may have dislocations,
fractures, boils,
chest tube)
Stab Room Timing Series - No exclusions; include all patients who present
to Stab Room
Summer Blitz Study - Following are NOT eligible
1. Age less than 18
2. Mental Status abnormalities or severe conditions precluding reliable
interview
(drunk patients, Stab room patients, patients with psychiatric disorders)
3. Does not speak English
4. Present after sexual assault
5. Muteness or deafness (precluding telephone interview)
6. Refusal: Cannot or will not complete consent process
7. Prisoner or in police custody
8. Other (ex. patient left AMA)
*Emancipated minor = has given birth to a child,
or lives on own and controls own finances
