Hypotension Capnography Study:

Overview: A study designed to determine if there is significance between certain events occurring for patients in shock and End-Tidal CO2 levels. Most will occur in Stab. room, but some patients in the cubes may qualify as well.

If patient appears to meet criteria but a blood pressure cannot be obtained immediately, begin collecting data on patient. If the patient is not hypotensive, the data can stop being collected.

Study Endpoints: ETCO2 levels as measured by the end-tidal monitors which are built into each bed-side monitor in the Stab room. Also, blood pressure, pulse, RR, pulse ox levels, and treatments administered:

1) IV fluids given
2) Meds given
3) Labs drawn
4) Oxygen given
5) Ultrasound (FAST exam)

Eligible Patients: Any patient in the Stab Room (or any patient 18 or older in the cubes - these need consent). Patient will have hypotension (systolic under 95), or be intubated. The cause of the hypotension may be due to a number of reasons...Check with a Dr. to see if patients are eligible.

Study Design: Prospective, observational trial

Anticipated Benefits: None

Potential Risks: None

Research Associate’s Role: Identify and (if possible) consent potential patients.  Obtain End Tidal levels with ETCO2 monitor. Use the end-tidal machine which is built into the bed-site monitors if patient is in the Stab. Room. Bring the old (white) end-tidal monitor for cube patients.

Physician’s Role: The RA will ask you to notify them of any eligible patients

Location of Study Packets: Stab Room
